My name is Toni Heaton, and I started my teaching career in 2002 at a large state school in the North of England. It was a school with many daily challenges, perhaps the most important one being the low levels of self-belief and lack of aspirations in the students. This is where I truly learned of the value of a person's self-esteem, their perception of themselves and what they really thought that they were capable of achieving. I decided that in order to get good results, I needed to start building their confidence and alter their attitudes to learning. In some cases, just the fear of trying when it comes to maths can often be a barrier to learning and progress.

Since that moment, my whole career has been about developing the student and their relationship with maths, not just delivering content. I have always taken this approach both in the classroom and my 1:1 sessions. I aim to help my students not only understand maths better, but to make it enjoyable, accessible and something to which they can honesty say 'I can do this now!'. When I hear from children, parents and adults that they like their maths lessons and feel less afraid of it, this drives me to continue and work hard.

In my 22 years as a professional teacher and tutor, I have worked in inner city schools, suburban schools, primary and secondary and both state and private establishments. I can offer help to those that struggle with maths, and additional support to those where maths is a strong subject for them, yet just need extra support, guidance and time to do the best they can. My sessions are available to all clients with all abilities in the subject.
